2nd Annual
Louisiana Gourd Show
"Gourding on the Bayou"
 April 3rd - 5th, 2014


       Youth} Includes anyone 18 years of age and younger.

      Novice} This division is for people who consider themselves a true beginner in the
                        category. Youth are eligible to enter the Novice Division, but fees will apply.       

      Open} This division is for all.

      Master} This division is for advanced artists who have achieved a level of expertise as 
                        demonstrated by having won blue ribbons, had work published and/or sold 
                        work in galleries. 

       Youth (only one per youth)
       8 years and under (#1)
       9 to 13 years (#2)
      14 to 18 years(#3)

For all Divisions not youth 
       Relief Carved (#4)
           Surface- carved to create texture; Chipped- chiseled or power carved. Does not 
           penetrate or cut entirely through the shell; may embellish with color. A whole or
           cut gourd may be used.  
      Cut/Filigree or fret work (#5)
          Design that cuts entirely through the gourd shell; may embellish with color.
      Pyrography (Wood burning) (#6)
          Gourd may be cut or whole. Translucent finish allowed on burned areas. Other 
          mediums, finishes and embellishments that enhance the gourd are allowed on 
          areas that are not burned. Pyrography must show and must predominate.
      Painted (#7)
          Painting must predominate; may use acrylic, enamel, oils or watercolor.
     Beaded (#8)
          Whole or cut gourd; beading must predominate.
      Mask (#9)
           Any technique, mixed media and embellishments are allowed. May be worn or
          hang in any design.
     Anything Goes(#10) 
          Whatever you'd like to enter however you'd like to create it using any technique, 
          mixed media and embellishments.

Judging will be in accordance with the standards of the American Gourd Society

Judging Handbook using Scoring Option B:
50% originality- Overall design/theme, artisanship, accessories, artistic quality.
50% workmanship: Neatness and quality, color/finish, balance/scale, overall appearance. If the quality of the gourd used is poor, judges will reduce their rank-order decision for that gourd as they deem appropriate.

Voted on by the people attending the festival
